Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) was formally established based on the ideas of Mawlana Abu Ala Moududi, supporter of the Wahhabi movement in the then British India. The JeI Bangladesh has evolved from the Jamaat organisation that was founded in India during 1941 by Maulana Abul Ala Mauddudi.  The party's objective is to establish an Islamic state, governed by Sharia Law.  JeI is accused of persistent involvement in extremist violence to achieve thier objective of a Wahhabist Islamic State.
