Jamaat-ul-Ahrar is a splinter group from the Movement of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Islami Pakistan (TTIP / TTP), announced during August 2014. The splinter group is led by former commanders of the Movement of the Taliban in Pakistan, such as Ihsanullah Ihsan, the former spokesman of the TTP, and Omar Khorasani, a senior leader in the Movement of the Taliban in Pakistan.
